The author never directly addresses the "cause and effect" aspects of these stories; it is left to the reader. Humans instinctually respect and create rituals. )There a lot of books in this world, and The Kingdom is certainly one of them. The prose in this book is masterful, and I'm surprised by how funny and incredibly intelligent it is. I'm looking forward to reading it myself if I can tear it away. You will use it and come to know (and maybe even appreciate) the Trichs more. He could have made it silly but Jim handles it beautifully.
